T minus 4 days!

My first ITU race of the year is only 4 days away now. I actually get to taper for this race, so that is a huge bonus! My body is starting to feel good, and I'm able to execute some surprisingly good splits on the track and in the water now. I'm getting really excited to race on Sunday, and although I'm also nervous, it's a good nervous energy as opposed to the "cowering in fear, I'm so nervous that I think I might pass out" nervous that I was just one year ago. At this time last year, I had just found out that I had been approved for my International Competition Card and was entered for this race. I had just strained my left hamstring again the weekend before during the Guelph Lake Olympic and  had to walk the last 3+ km of the run. I didn't have an ITU race suit to wear, so I was running around the city looking for someone to print my suit according to the ITU rules. Soooo, compared to last year, I can say with absolute confidence that I am much more prepared for the race, because I know how strict the rules are, how stiff the competition is, and I know what to expect. I also feel much more prepared both physically and mentally. I've put in the most consistent training that I have ever done in my triathlon career over the past 6-7 months, and I look forward to seeing how I will perform in the ITU race setting. I've got some new, more aggressive shorties on my bike, and AJ has given me his blessing to use his Zipp wheels this weekend with only one caveat: they must go FAST, because he doesn't want them catching any bad habits when I return!
